Governor Rich’s Barnyard Chatter
Sheila and I are really enjoying ourselves as we visit the Great Clubs of
District 1-G. We find that although all clubs have a lot in common, each one
is special in many different ways, which is why I strongly back Zone meetings
as a good way to share ideas.
Letters have been sent to all clubs about the bowling tournament by Lion Jim
Weder, chairman. You don’t have to be a good bowler to have a good time.
With handicap figured in everyone has a chance to win. Please take the time
to fill out the entry blank and get it sent in on time. If you do not have an entry
blank, please call me.
If you have any unsold 2007 calendars left, please turn them in to your Zone
Chairperson or give me a call. We still have clubs that need calendars. If you
have money and registration slips to turn in, please send them to Calendar
Chairman PDG Robert Sudbury. The first drawing will be around the end of
February, so you still have time.
Some clubs have planned membership meetings
which is great. Remember our International President
Jimmy Ross has pledged to charter 15 clubs, so he is
doing his part. Let’s help him out and get some new
members on our own.
Please remember District 1-G Convention coming
up on March 16, 17, and 19. We have worked hard on
trying to make it a learning and fun experience. Mark
your calendars and send in your reservations.
Don’t forget your sweetheart on February 14.
Happy Valentines Day!

Please mark the dates of the Region meetings in February on your calendar. the
one on February 15 will be in Beardstown at the Elk’s building and on February
21 in Marine at the Lions building. Both start at 6:30 p.m. If you missed one of
the first two meetings that were in your area, then please come to one of these.
Please call me with your reservation.
I am in the process of forming my cabinet. Please keep me in mind, since I will
be in contact with you.
VDG, Jim Potts

Goat For Dinner
The young couple invited their elderly pastor for
Sunday dinner. While they were in the kitchen
preparing the meal, the minister asked their son what
they were having.
“Goat”, the little boy replied.
“Goat?” replied the startled man of the cloth, “Are
you sure about that?
“Yep,” said the youngster. “I heard Dad say to Mom,
‘Today is just as good as any to have the old goat for dinner.
“The Role of the Chaplain in the Local Club”
Greetings fellow Lions! My name is Rev. Maurice Smith and I currently wear several hats in Lionism
in our District. I am the President of the Highland Lions Club and its Chaplain, as well as the Chaplain
for our District. I have been involved in Lionism for many years and am honored to be a part of such
a great service organization. I must say, however, that through the years I have found that the role of
chaplain is often a missing ingredient in our local clubs.
This club leader can offer so much more than just a prayer before meals at regular meetings. The chaplain
can also serve as a resource for fellow members during any personal or family crisis. And he or
she can lead a brief service at a funeral home if Lion members attend a visitation as a group.
If your club does not have a chaplain, I would encourage you to consider adding this position to your
list of officers. If you do not have one, take advantage of what he or she can offer. It will be a great
asset for the health of your club.
I am available to discuss this with you or answer any questions you might have. Please feel free to
contact me by e-mail at mandtsmith@charter.net or by phone at 618-651-1057.

TRUSTEE FOUNDATION REPORT
Hope everyone had a happy holiday season. Since we have started a new calendar year, the Lions’ year
is half over.
The Candy Day Report should be in. Check and see if your Lions Club has theirs into the Foundation.
The Sight and Sound Sweepstakes tickets should be coming out. Please sell, sell, sell.
Thanks to the state coordinators for attending the meeting in Bloomington on Sunday, January 7th. It
shows that your district coordinators are working with our Foundation to make it better.
The next Foundation Trustee meeting is scheduled for February 16, 17 & 18, 2007.
IF you have any tabs, keys, & eye glasses, please give me a call for a pick-up or bring them to my house.
IF you need a program for your Lions’ meeting give me a call and I will be happy to speak about your
Foundation.
I am going to run for a second term as 1-G District Foundation Trustee. Your support will be appreciated.
Thanks to all Lions who sent cards and best wishes to me on my retirement at the end of last year.
Yours Trustees, PDG Johnny Anderson and PDG John Thien
